Built in 1884, this elegant mansion was once the home of Calais’ famous lacemakers. The exterior of the three-storey building has been beautifully preserved to reflect a period when Calais was the fashion capital of France.

You’ll be greeted like a member of a very exclusive French family the moment you step through the doors. The refined style is reflected throughout the building, with the high ceilings ornately decorated with delicate mouldings in keeping with the period.

Venture in a little further, and you will see that those original features are paired with unique Art Deco furniture and artwork from the 1920s onwards.

Enjoy the grounds at your own pace

Huge bifold doors at the back of the house lead into the extensive garden. In warmer months, you can bask in the morning sun as you enjoy a leisurely French breakfast on the veranda.

This is a hidden sanctuary in the heart of the bustling town. Bordered by overhanging willows, planted beds and tall evergreens, the garden is also the perfect place to escape with a book or relax with a glass of Burgundy wine while watching the stars.

In cooler months, the garden can be enjoyed from the warmth of the cosy garden room. This relaxed space has a funky feel, with bare bricks, relaxed Acapulco chairs, vintage advertising signs and even a retro table football table.

Details in every room add a touch of class

The ensuite rooms are simple and stylish, with brilliant white walls that encourage the light to flood in.

Look for the ornate French vanity unit in the Rachel room; it is complete with a marble top and ornate mirror. Those who stay in the Leavers room can sink into the deep roll-top bathtub and unwind after their day of activities.

Meanwhile, the Guipure room offers guests a little added luxury with its double sinks, jacuzzi bath and elaborate tiling. Families here for a seaside break aren’t left out either, as the larger suite provides a double room with an adjoining twin room decorated with the same clean elegance as the rest of the house.

Spa facilities in the comfort of your hotel room

To make this the ultimate weekend away for couples, the spa is a must. Qualified masseurs are on hand to provide invigorating or relaxing treatments and dedicated back massages, all within the comfort of your hotel room.
