Make lasting memories

For a truly authentic experience, take a trip on a wooden bacôve – the traditional market gardener’s boat that is still carved in the region today.

Join a night cruise and be serenaded by a chorus of owls and bats or set sail at dawn and see the stunning spectrum of colours and reed silhouettes as the sun rises through the mist. Alternatively, treat yourself to a dining cruise so you can sit back and feast while exploring the area.

You’re never too old for a good tale, so why not join renowned storyteller Christine Charpentier on a storytelling cruise? Be enthralled as she introduces you to the secrets of the marshes through the tales of fictional adventurer and hero Rocambole.

Shop in an idyllic setting

Food shopping will never feel the same again after you’ve stopped off at a farmers’ market with a difference on the side of the marshes. Stock up on the freshest of fruit and vegetables grown right on the banks in the incredibly fertile soil.

Visit the ISNOR ‘village’, where market gardeners, local producers and regional artisans also offer a delicious assortment of cheeses, jams, terrines, beers, bread and pies.

Shop for a special souvenir from the marsh. Choose a figurine of a local bird or animal or pick up a postcard or two. You’ll be spoilt for choice with the wide range of books, maps and guides, wooden games, toys and organic soaps on offer.

Sample delicious French cuisine

The fresh marsh air is bound to give you an appetite, so enjoy some traditional Flemish cuisine at La Terrasse Restaurant or the Terrasse Bar. Why not try the famous house speciality: suckling pig, cooked for eight hours in a wood-fired oven?

If it’s a snack you’re after, then La Baguernette Restaurant has a range of delicious treats, including ice cream, waffles and French toast.

If you’re looking for family picnic ideas, you can bring your own food to enjoy your meal in the covered picnic area.
